Susie Ganch’s latest body of work reflects the evolution in her identity and approach as an artist and maker. Originally trained as a metalsmith, Ganch’s considerations of strength, fragility, and the interconnectedness of human experience and the environment have expanded from the intimate scale of personal adornment to large-scale constructions—organized structural systems that absorb and engulf the viewer into them. The collected detritus of our collective, everyday experience—used coffee lids, bags, bits of trash—are diverted from their path to the landfill, gathered and repurposed into precise, intricate networks, held together by tension and suspension, each piece vital and necessary to supporting the overall form.
