Landscape #2: Purisima is beaded with thousands of collected faux pearls and pill bottles, recreating one of the artist’s favorite geographic landscapes. Using traditional engraving techniques from her background as a jeweler, Ganch carved marks on the bottle lids to highlight different microclimates found in this unique region. Bottle heights represent the 2,000-foot elevation change that exists in this topographic location.

The artist “amplifies the complicated relationship between disposable objects and landscape. These geographies of critique celebrate labor, optimism, and humor and use scale to immerse the viewer in the urgency of our times. I tease out beauty, and from a distance, the sculptures draw in the viewer through their familiar forms. However, up close, their dual nature unfolds, and the indelible marks of usage highlight our collective complacency.”
